Introduction - Ariel

“Music is a mountain that you get the privilege to climb. You can camp out and take pictures, but you will never reach the top. That's the amazing part.” - Greg Jasperse

“This quote is one of the many that has taught me that music is an ongoing learning process. It has made me appreciate the journey of getting where I am today as a musician as well as a person.” -Ariel

Ariel grew up in the small town of Rockport, Indiana, just across the Ohio River from Owensboro, Kentucky. She is one of two adopted siblings in her close-knit family. She spent most of her life in Rockport and Owensboro dreaming of becoming a singer on stage. Now, at 27 years old, she's accomplished just that.

At age 4, Ariel began to understand what music was by watching Disney princess movies like The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast. She would grab hold of the tape recorder and sing into the microphone while Ariel the mermaid sang “Part of Your World”. It wasn't much later that Ariel and her family began enjoying American Idol. The first year of the talent show took the world by storm with Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini. It was watching this talent show that Ariel made up her mind about becoming a singer. Kelly Clarkson inspired her as a normal girl from Texas who was able to make it big by becoming one of America's favorite singers.

“I remember watching Kelly Clarkson sing “A Moment Like This” and thinking to myself 'that's what I want to do. I want to sing on stage'. I never in a million years believed that Kelly Clarkson would be such an influence on the genre in which I have landed.”

Ariel began singing wherever she could whether it was around the house, at church, in the car, etc. By the time she began middle school, she had already gained an appreciation for piano, as well as vocal music she heard on the radio. She joined choir where she was introduced to Classical music and show tunes for the first time. She participated in her first musical in the sixth grade and by 8th grade she was starring in the leading role of Beauty and the Beast. In high school, she took part in jazz choir ensembles, musicals, and elite choirs that taught her that singing on pitch wasn't the only important aspect of singing. She learned to sing harmonies, to appreciate the different artistry that took form in musicals like Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, and Les Miserables. Ariel knew what she would do once she left high school to attend college. She would pursue a vocal music degree and continue on for her masters to continue the path she'd begun in high school.

“I found out I was pregnant my freshman year of college, and I knew that my priorities would have to change. I decided I would focus on getting my degree and finding a job so that I would be able to provide for my daughter. Melody Grace was born on July 23, 2014 and after a challenging battle between relationships, classes, and self-esteem, I graduated in April of 2017. After working a few different jobs, I finally got to a point where I could go out and sing for karaoke nights. Thanks to my mother for being my babysitter, I was able to go out fairly often. In 2019 I got a message from John that they were interested in having me sing with them. I met up with them, sang at Porch Fest and the rest is history!”

Ariel has found her sound over the past 3 years especially during the pandemic. She's pulled from inspirations such as Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande, Jessie J, and women in rock to combine soul and rock when she sings new songs. She's pulled from past experiences and lessons to help co-write songs with the band and has begun playing on stages in the area.

“I look forward to where we are going and how we are progressing as a band. I am so excited for others to hear our originals and get a taste of what our music sounds like. We are ready to get our sound out there and share our love of music with our area and beyond those boundaries. Look out y'all! Here we come!”
